On May 9, 2015, The Sonder Project held its very first fundraiser to support a newly launched nonprofit inspired by a trip to Burkina Faso, where two of our co-founders helped build a school in partnership with the local community. We didn’t yet know what the future would hold—only that we were committed to doing the most good, with the greatest impact, in the most efficient way we could.
Ten years later, we’ve come a long way.
This May, we celebrated our 10-year anniversary across Burkina Faso, Malawi, and the U.S.—and with our wider community through a special online campaign. Together, we reflected on a decade of impact: from clean water systems to classrooms, garden beds to scholarships. Every milestone has been made possible by the people who’ve stood with us—from our earliest supporters to new partners joining today.
As we look back, we also look forward—with gratitude and renewed purpose. Thank you to everyone who’s contributed to this journey, in ways big and small. Below, we invite you to explore some highlights from our first decade.
VOICES FROM THE FIELD: Parents, teachers, and students in Burkina Faso and Malawi share how The Sonder Project has transformed their lives.
GRATITUDE FROM THE TEAM: Staff and board members from the US, Burkina Faso and Malawi reflect on what this milestone means to them.
SUPPORTER TESTIMONIALS: Donors from across the country share what being part of this movement means to them.
SONDER HEROES: We’re proud to recognize the businesses and partners who have been with us through the years—funding projects, volunteering time, rallying communities, and expanding our reach. Special thanks to:
